Retired Thai General Accuses Malaysian PM Anwar of Espionage and Meddling in Domestic Affairs

# Controversy Erupts Over Thai-Cambodian Peace Agreement

A recent peace agreement between Thailand and Cambodia, brokered by Malaysia as the rotating chair of ASEAN, has sparked intense controversy. The deal, signed in Kuala Lumpur under the supervision of Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and U.S. President Donald Trump, aims to resolve border conflicts that erupted in July. However, the accord has drawn sharp criticism from retired Thai General Rangsi Kitiyansap, who accused Anwar of meddling in Thailand's internal affairs and labeled him as a 'wolf in sheep's clothing' and a spy embedded within ASEAN.

## Retired General's Scathing Criticism

In a video interview that went viral online, Rangsi vehemently criticized Anwar for his role in the peace negotiations. He alleged that Anwar's actions have caused significant problems for Thailand and questioned the motives behind Malaysia's involvement. 'Anwar is a spy,' Rangsi declared. 'He has brought us a lot of trouble and disaster. Why must he interfere with our affairs?' Despite these grave accusations, Rangsi provided no concrete evidence to support his claims.

Rangsi, a former head of the Thai Army's broadcasting division, has been an outspoken critic of the peace agreement since its signing. He has repeatedly appeared on television, denouncing Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen as a 'villain' and even calling for Thailand to declare war on Cambodia following the border clashes in July.

## Economic Concerns and Allegations

Central to Rangsi's criticism is his belief that the peace agreement paves the way for U.S. interference in Thailand's economic sovereignty. He claims that the deal is linked to trade agreements between Thailand and the United States, including tariffs and rare earth trade, which he argues harm Thailand's economy and trade interests.

Moreover, Rangsi accused Anwar of using the Thai-Cambodian peace talks to personally benefit by forcing through a reciprocal trade agreement with the U.S. These allegations have caused a stir in Malaysian politics, prompting opposition lawmakers to demand action from the government.

## Malaysian Government's Response

In response to Rangsi's accusations, Malaysia's Deputy Foreign Minister, Mohamad Alamin, emphasized that Anwar's efforts in facilitating the peace talks were recognized and appreciated by Thai Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin. He stated that this achievement should be a source of pride for all Malaysians.

Regarding the espionage allegations against Anwar, Mohamad Alamin maintained that the government would not respond to unverified online claims or comments lacking diplomatic authority. However, he assured that the situation is being closely monitored.

The controversy highlights the delicate nature of regional diplomacy and the challenges of balancing national interests with international cooperation.
